How do people make a living in the Mexico-Guatemala border zone? We saw evidence of thriving cross-border consumerism, migrant labor, big agriculture projects, small subsistence farming—and some illegal activity.

Tapachula, Chiapas, the border zone’s largest city, has many of the same “big box” stores you’d find in a U.S. suburb. They depend heavily on shoppers from Guatemala.
