Honduras: Contra Human Rights Abuses Against Honduran Civilians (1986)

In 1986, Richard J. Hillar traveled to Honduras to investigate reports of serious human rights violations by the U.S.-financed Contra rebels in Honduran territory.  He was able to interview victims of, and eyewitnesses to, these violations. Hillar's preliminary report provided some of the first well-substantiated accounts of rights abuses by the Nicaraguan Contras and helped undermine support for the Contras in the U.S. Congress.
