WOLA believes that development policies must be evaluated on the extent to which they respect, protect and fulfill human rights. Poverty reduction and economic rights are not only fundamental to long-term economic growth, equality and stability, but are moral imperatives. Because of the high levels of rural poverty, WOLA is promoting alternative development models that increase investment in rural areas to support small and medium producers, create farm and non-farm employment opportunities including access to land and other productive assets, and investment in human services.
