WOLA, Other NGOs Voice Concern Over Attacks on Colombian Lands Commission

WOLA, TransAfrica Forum, AFRODES USA and others wrote to the State Department regarding recent efforts to obstruct the return of illegally appropriated collective lands in Curvarado, Colombia.

WOLA, TransAfrica Forum, AFRODES USA and others wrote to the Department of State expressing concern about recent efforts to obstruct the return of illegally appropriated collective territories in Curvarado.  The letter asks the State Department to contact the Colombian Vice President's office.  On June 20, while the governmental commission in charge of determining which territories must be restituted to their rightful owners, a group of armed men that are occupying the territory illegally detained them until the police arrived at 1:20 pm.

In the letter, the NGOs ask Jonathan Farrar, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of State, to urge Vice President Francisco Santos to ensure the safety and protection of the commission and NGOs involved in this process.
