Thirty Representatives Call for Suspension of U.S. Assistance to Honduras

Thirty members of Congress sent a letter to Secretary of State Clinton on October 19 calling for the suspension of U.S. assistance to Honduras "until the government of Porfirio Lobo distances itself from individuals involved in the June 28, 2009 military coup d'etat and adequately addresses the ongoing human and political rights violations."  The letter stresses unabated violence targeting the political opposition and rampant impunity as reasons for withholding aid.  The letter also urges "the Obama Administration to refrain from supporting the immediate reentry of Honduras in the Organization of American States."
