WOLA Joins Human Rights Groups in Pushing Back Against Dangerous ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy Through Legal Action

This week, WOLA joined Amnesty International and other organizations to file an amicus brief to challenge the Trump administration’s use of a policy that forces asylum seekers to return to Mexico as they await resolution of their cases in the United States. Drawing on our collective work documenting crimes and human rights violations against migrants in Mexico and at the border, the brief details the risks of danger for migrants subjected to this policy, as well as Mexico’s history of deporting asylum seekers back to their home countries. The brief further describes how the “Remain in Mexico” policy violates U.S. and international law.

The brief was filed in support of plaintiffs in the Innovation Law Lab v. McAleenan case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
