Eight U.S. human rights groups wrote the following letter to Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom. The groups expressed profound concern about the series of death threats and reported surveillance by unidentified persons recently received by staff members of two prominent human rights organizations, Security in Democracy (SEDEM) and the Unit for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders in Guatemala (UDEFEGUA).

Eight US human rights groups wrote the following letter to Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom.

The groups respectfully urge President Colom to publicly repudiate the threats; urge the Attorney General’s Office (Ministerio Publico) to promptly investigate and prosecute those responsible; and urge the Interior Ministry to strengthen the protection measures provided to members of SEDEM and UDEFEGUA.
