Teenage soldier María is ordered to bring her commander’s newborn baby to safety, but no one knows the secret she is hiding: she’s pregnant herself. Having a child is forbidden amongst the lower-ranked guerrillas; all pregnant soldiers are forced to have abortions so they can continue fighting. Refusing to follow the fate, María runs away, inspired by the life growing inside her. With the threat of danger constantly lurking, this unusual war film explores the devastating personal costs to those caught up in Colombia’s armed conflict. Alias María was a 2015 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, and premiered on the opening night of the 2015 Cartagena Film Festival.
