Twelve Members of Congress Call on Colombia to Respect Land Rights

On November 7, 2013, 12 members of the U.S. Congress sent a letter to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos expressing their concern over the land restitution process in the Curavarado and Jiguamiando river valleys in Colombia. Paramilitary threats to the land claimants, continued bad-faith occupation of collective lands, and the exclusion of entire communities threaten to derail the entire land restitution process. WOLA welcomes this letter and hopes that it will allow this emblematic case of land restitution to go forward with the inclusion of the entire displaced community.
