WOLA staff report back on a visit to the Arizona-Mexico border amid the “zero tolerance” and family separation crisis
Adam Isacson, Maureen Meyer, and Adeline Hite were at the Arizona-Mexico border last week amid the furor over the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance and family separation policies. In Yuma, Tucson, Nogales, and San Luis, they met with authorities, migrants, lawyers, advocates, and volunteers to get a sense of what is going on along the migrant trail, in detention centers, in courtrooms, and at ports of entry. They discuss what they saw, and what challenges lie ahead not just for asylum-seekers, but for all of us who’ve been shocked and spurred to action by the family separation crisis and the looming family detention crisis.
