The Washington Office on Latin America laments the passing of Stephen Coats, the director of the US/Guatemala Labor Education Project (US LEAP). Stephen’s work in founding and building US LEAP, and expanding its range to work on labor rights issues throughout the Western Hemisphere, was an expression of his commitment to solidarity and his personal values. WOLA staff worked with him over many years on Guatemala and Central America issues, and in recent years on Colombia. He will be missed by colleagues here, and throughout Latin America. WOLA expresses its deepest condolences to Stephen’s wife, Kim Bobo, and to his sons.
