ColombiaPeace.org: WOLA’s New Resource on Colombia’s Peace Process

After a half century of intense violence, Colombia may be nearing an end to its internal armed conflict. For the past nine months, negotiators from the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, FARC) have been in Havana, Cuba, negotiating a peaceful exit to the country’s bloody conflict.

U.S. support for the process and post-conflict scenario will be key. Colombia has been Latin America’s leading recipient of U.S. aid for 20 years and maintains close political, economic, and military ties with the United States. Despite the important role the United States has to play, there has been a void of English-language resources as the talks have progressed.

The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) seeks to meet this need with a new online resource, www.ColombiaPeace.org.

The new website features:

  • Analyses and commentary from WOLA experts
  • A detailed timeline of the peace process
  • Links to documents related to the talks
  • Links to current news coverage in English and Spanish
  • Links to analysis of the United States’ role in securing peace in Colombia
  • Multimedia resources

We hope you will find the website a useful resource as the negotiations progress. Please direct all questions and comments to Adam Schaffer at aschaffer@wola.org or +1 (202) 797-2171.
