Alejandra Castillo Díaz has been the Assistant Director of the Center for Human Rights Legal Action (Centro para la Acción Legal en Derechos Humanos, CALDH) since 2010. CALDH is a leading organization in Guatemala that represents victims in a variety of legal situations, including cases related to the Maya Ixil genocide and CREOMPAZ case, which has been described as one of the most significant cases of forced disappearance in Latin America.
In this discussion, Alejandra will analyze the achievements made in transitional justice processes in Guatemala and the challenges that persist, including a new wave of attacks against human rights defenders. Alejandra has been invited by the Guatemala Human Rights Commission (GHRC) to visit Washington, DC and other cities to present updated information and analysis about the human rights situation in Guatemala.
