Lily Sweeting

Lily Sweeting (she/her) is the Communications Assistant at WOLA, where she supports the Communications team across various functions, including content management, production, editing, media relations, and translation. Before stepping into this full-time role, Lily served as the Communications and Development Intern at WOLA during the Spring and Summer of 2024.

Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Lily has a deep-rooted passion for defending human rights and promoting social justice in Latin America and the Caribbean. Throughout her academic journey, she honed this passion by focusing on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community in Latin America, blending her love for writing with her commitment to advocacy.

Beyond her work at WOLA, Lily is a contributing writer at Sentiido, a Bogotá-based nonprofit, where she writes about topics of gender and sexual diversity and social change. She has also interned at Temblores ONG in Bogotá, Colombia, and gained experience at Current Media and Voice of America. Lily earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish Language from American University in Washington, D.C.
