There are hundreds of programs which address the needs of at risk youth or gang involved youth through prevention strategies in the United States and Central America. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has lead efforts in the U.S. to evaluate community-based prevention programs and to support and coordinate these programs at the federal level. Many similar programs have been developed in Central America (many through churches or religious organizations) but these severely lack government support and coordination. WOLA works with the Central American Coalition for the Prevention of Violence (CCPVJ) in order to promote the best practices in the region and advocate for the Central American governments to place greater emphasis on prevention and community policing rather that suppression only policies
