WOLA’s migration and border security program aims to separate rhetoric from reality. We monitor the security situation along the U.S.-Mexico border, overseeing the U.S. security presence and exposing the border buildup’s often unseen consequences and costs. We research the latest migration trends and the effects of border security efforts, both in Mexico and the United States, on migration routes and migrants’ safety. We also monitor how policies impact migrants’ human rights and due process guarantees. WOLA proposes policy alternatives that will protect migrants’ rights, prevent migrant deaths on U.S. borderlands, and ensure that efforts to enhance border security are measured against facts.
