International Call for Renewed Peace Talks in Colombia with the ELN: Extending Ceasefire and Upholding Ethnic Rights

In a pivotal appeal to support Colombia’s peace process, WOLA, alongside 172 individuals and organizations, calls for immediate action in the ongoing peace process between the Colombian Government and the ELN. We urge the resumption of peace talks and an extension of the bilateral ceasefire that expired on August 3. We emphasize the importance of prioritizing the implementation of the Ethnic Chapter—part of the 2016 Peace Agreement—within Colombia’s Total Peace policy and implementing urgent humanitarian relief and protection measures for indigenous and black communities in conflict-affected areas. Additionally, we call on international governments to advocate for the effective implementation of these commitments and ensure the protection of these communities’ rights and territories.
