WOLA in Venezuela
Venezuela is grappling with a complex political, economic, and humanitarian crisis exacerbated by intensifying authoritarian rule. The country is in the grips of economic collapse marked by hyperinflation, corruption, widespread poverty, and ongoing human rights violations. This dire situation, exacerbated by U.S. economic sanctions, has triggered one of the world’s largest forced migration crises, with millions fleeing to neighboring countries and to the United States for safety and protection.
Under the current regime, democratic institutions have eroded, and political opponents and civil society experience violent repression, censorship, and grave human rights violations—currently under investigation by the International Criminal Court and the focus of a UN fact-finding mission. WOLA advocates for U.S. and international support for policies that advance a peaceful, negotiated solution to the political crisis, address the urgent humanitarian needs of the Venezuelan people and foster a humane response to the unique challenges of Venezuelan migrants and refugees. We emphasize the significance of gender and racial justice in these efforts, ensuring that the rights and needs of marginalized communities are prioritized in the humanitarian response.
