WOLA in El Salvador
WOLA’s work in El Salvador focuses on addressing significant democratic backsliding observed in recent years. Corruption, the concentration of power, and the absence of judicial independence and other checks and balances are undermining the rule of law. A prolonged state of emergency has further compromised civil guarantees, crippling due process.
We advocate for policies to counter these threats while emphasizing the urgent need for justice and protection for victims of violence and human rights abuses, particularly in vulnerable communities. Since the Salvadoran Civil War, WOLA has partnered with civil society organizations to protect communities and champion human rights while engaging with U.S. policymakers to support these efforts. Our key focus areas include addressing human rights violations, countering corruption, promoting the rule of law, and defending justice and dignity for all. We also recognize the importance of gender and racial justice, ensuring that the rights of marginalized groups are central to our advocacy efforts.
