Pride and Resilience: LGBTIQ+ Activism in Contexts of Democratic Erosion

Join us on Wednesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. (ET) for a timely conversation on LGBTQ+ resistance amid democratic erosion, featuring activists working across the Americas.
From the rollback of democratic norms in the U.S. and Venezuela to new threats emerging in Argentina, the panel will explore how LGBTQ+ communities are organizing and demanding justice despite hostile political environments.
This event will be held in Spanish with English interpretation available.
The discussion will feature:
- Carlos Quesada, Executive Director of the International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights
- Marlene Wayar, general coordinator of Futuro Transgenerico, co-founder of the Silvia Rivera Trans Network of Latin America and the Caribbean, and author of Travesti: una teoría lo suficientemente buena
- Yendri Velásquez, a lawyer and activist with the Observatorio Venezolano de Violencias LGBTIQ+
The event will be moderated by Carolina Jiménez Sandoval, President of the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA).
