WOLA: Advocacy for Human Rights in the Americas

Legal, Regulated Cannabis

The recent state-level ballot initiatives that created regulated cannabis markets within the United States have opened new space to pursue similar proposals throughout the world. In 2013, Uruguay became the first country to take this step, followed by Canada in 2018. As more jurisdictions consider regulatory approaches to cannabis, lessons learned in the pioneering jurisdictions can inform the debate. WOLA is actively promoting information exchange and knowledge sharing to improve the design and implementation of regulatory frameworks.
