WOLA: Advocacy for Human Rights in the Americas

Fighting Corruption and Exposing Impunity

Some Central American governments recently made important progress in tackling corruption and strengthening the rule of law, in large part due to popular civil society movements pushing for reform. However, across the region, we have witnessed a fierce and widespread backlash from corrupt sectors working to undo the progress that has been achieved. In Guatemala and Honduras, they succeeded in shuttering the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) and the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity (MACCIH), which has paved the way for further regression in terms of the fight against corruption and impunity. WOLA closely follows the work of valiant anti-corruption crusaders and advocates for U.S. support of their efforts.
