50th Anniversary Events

In commemoration of WOLA’s 50 years, we will be hosting our premier 50th Anniversary Human Rights Awards Ceremony and Benefit Gala, which will be held on May 9, 2024. We hope that through these events we can honor WOLA’s past, present, and future work.   This year we will be honoring Senator Patrick Leahy, Venezuela Program Education-Action on Human Rights (PROVEA), and the Collectives of Family Members of the Disappeared in Guanajuato, Mexico. Read the announcement.    

As WOLA marks its 50th anniversary with a series of events to reflect on the past, present, and future of the struggle for human rights and social justice in our hemisphere, join us and three of our partners for a discussion on the fight for #gender and #racial justice throughout the region. 

 

Panelists from different countries will help us take stock of realities on the ground today, the significance of advances and setbacks in recent years, and how to address the evolving challenges to the feminist and racial justice movements going forward.

On September 18, 2023, WOLA held a thought-provoking event at the U.S. Senate to discuss "Defending Human Rights and Democracy 50 years after the Chilean Coup d’état".

On September 23, 2023, President Gabriel Boric awarded the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) a medal in recognition of international solidarity at a special ceremony.
