WOLA: Advocacy for Human Rights in the Americas

U.S.-Cuba Relations

WOLA has long opposed the U.S. embargo on Cuba which has proven ineffective in promoting human rights and driving meaningful political reforms. The Obama administration made strides to normalize diplomatic relations to the benefit of the Cuban people, giving way to widespread internet access and greater economic prospects. Successive U.S. administrations since have failed to pursue policies that would substantially improve the island’s humanitarian crisis and foster change. Despite this challenging environment, WOLA remains committed to removing barriers to engagement between the two countries.
