Colombian NGO Justicia y Paz Receives More Threats

The Comisión Interclesial de Justicia y Paz, a Colombian non-governmental organization, received more threats to its security on September 7.  WOLA, along with ten other individuals and organizations, sent a letter to the Department of State expressing concern over the latest developments.

The letter asks that the State Department and U.S. Embassy in Bogotá:

  • Contact Vice President Angelino Garzon and encourage him to guarantee the security of all members of the NGO Justicia y Paz and the communities that they accompany. In particular, the Vice President should request that the Ministry of the Interior fully implement the protective measures it agreed to put into place for Justicia y Paz in January 2010.
  • The US Embassy should visit Justicia y Paz's office in Bogotá to discuss steps that can be taken to improve their security situation.
