Assassination of Haiti President a Deplorable Act of Violence

The July 7 assasination of Haiti President Jovenel Moïse is a deplorable act of violence. It took place amidst a larger ongoing political crisis, recurrent criminal violence, and alarming human rights violations impacting the Haitian people. The Biden administration and the international community must listen to Haitian civil society and incorporate their concerns into policies that center the following: the well-being of Haitians, respect for rule of law and human rights, and addressing the structural roots of the crisis.
