Civil Society Organizations Urge Secretary Blinken to Support Peace Talks with the ELN

The Latin American Working Group (LAWG), The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), and other U.S.-based and international civil society organizations sent a letter to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urging the State Department to fully support the ongoing peace negotiations and dialogue with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

We also urged the State Department to increase diplomatic and financial support for the full implementation of the 2016 accords with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)– especially considering the U.S. is an accompanier to the Accord’s Ethnic Chapter.

“Now is the time for the United States to fully support the Colombian government-ELN peace talks and add to the growing momentum around this process. In a time of conflict in so many parts of the globe, it is good to see forward action to build peace.”Lisa Haugaard, Senior Associate of the Latin America Working Group
