Central American and U.S. Bishops Statement on CAFTA

In June 2004, a delegation of six Central America and U.S.-based bishops visited Washington DC to discuss their observations and concerns over CAFTA which had been recently signed by several of their respective governments. They represented the Church in Central America, the Bishops’ Secretariat of Central America (SEDAC) and the Chairmen of Domestic and International Policy Committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and engaged in discussions with representatives from the U.S. Administration, Congress, multi-lateral institutions and civil society Upon the completion of these discussions, they chose to express their concerns in one united voice and issued this statement.
