WOLA: Advocacy for Human Rights in the Americas

Abuses Against Civilians By Counterrevolutionaries in Nicaragua (1985)

In 1985, WOLA and the International Human Rights Law Group asked lawyer Donald Fox and Michael Glennon, professor at the University of Cincinnati Law School, to travel to Nicaragua and investigate reports of human rights abuses against civilians by the so-called Contras, or counterrevolutionaries battling the Sandinista government with U.S. financing. In this report, Fox and Glennon gave their findings while also explaining the background of the conflict, the methodology they used in their investigation, and their conclusions.
